Mercedes-Benz Engine Light Codes

2020 Mercedes-Benz CLS 450

Have you wondered about your Mercedes-Benz engine codes? You hear factory-trained mechanics mention them when inspecting your vehicle, but many Los Angeles-area drivers know what the Mercedes-Benz check engine light codes are. The team at Mercedes-Benz of Arcadia created a list of the Mercedes-Benz engine codes to help you understand what may be wrong with your Mercedes-Benz vehicle when one of the lights pops up on your dashboard.

Mercedes-Benz Engine Codes & Their Meanings

Below is your guide to the different Mercedes-Benz check engine light codes and what they mean.

  • The Coolant Light is a vital indicator that warns you of a faulty temperature gauge or the coolant level is too low. A vehicle that runs without enough coolant can result in dangerously high temperatures, which can cause engine damage.
  • The Tire Pressure Light lights up when one or more of your tires is low. Take a look at the tire pressure on your dashboard screen to check the pressure in each tire.
  • The Battery Light lets you know that the battery is not being charged. Possible causes include a malfunction in the vehicle electronics or a faulty alternator.
  • The Brake Wear Light indicator lets drivers know that the brake pads and possibly the rotors are worn out and need to get replaced.
  • The Airbag Light indicates that there’s a malfunction in Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). This means that the airbag will not deploy should there be an accident.
  • The Steering Wheel Light indicates that there is a fault with your vehicle’s power steering assistance. If there’s an issue, you will need more effort to steer the vehicle on the roads in Pasadena.
  • The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) indicates that the ABS and maybe other related systems have deactivated. While you can still reduce speed and come to a complete stop, you won’t be able to do so with the additional safety that you get with the Anti-Lock Brake System.

You can find a full list of these lights in your vehicle’s owner’s manual. It’s recommended to pay close attention to these lights as they could save you on expensive repairs in the event of a breakdown, as well as keep you safe on the roads in the Arcadia and Alhambra areas, and beyond.
